Money for Nothing…

In response to the Daily Prompt, “Money For Nothing,” If you’re like most of us, you need to earn money by working for a living. Describe your ultimate job. If you’re in your dream job, tell us all about it — what is it that you love? What fulfills you? If you’re not in your dream job, describe for us what your ultimate job would be.

I used to think that it would be great to be a writer, but I don’t know that I could commit to a novel or flesh out ideas long enough to create one. I also used to think it would be great to fly around the United States and Toronto to watch and report on Major League Baseball. Not that I don’t still enjoy writing, as I have a blog I post to from time to time, and not that I don’t still enjoy MLB. It’s just that some things sound like a great idea but are not for everyone to fulfill and carry out. There are many people who would like to be the next Michael Jordan or Serena Williams, but how many athletes are able to attain that level of success? Not I, and not a lot of others who find other means of success.

As mentioned in previous posts, I tossed around a few career ideas before settling for a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (by default), and then continued on the Social Services path. I am proud to have helped many people, especially young people and their families, however, my career has  had its ups and downs. I am about as happy as I have been in this field currently, though I have less freedom and more pay than I have had in other jobs. The job I worked prior to this was on my list of least favorite jobs I have had, in a three-way tie with working at a retail store selling Women’s shoes and working in a group home for teenage girls. These are all honest jobs for honest pay but they were not suited for me.

I think my dream job would be to work as a blogger/investigative reporter. I like news, I like research, and I like the truth. It was very cool for me to see Joe Biggs from Infowars.com film a “man on the street” segment about Hillary Clinton’s six coin tosses . I remember being very proud when my brother was interviewed years ago by a Chicago news outlet as well. I enjoy blogging about episodes in my life and my feelings about matters related to U.S. politics, and I wish I could find more time in my week to do so. I like learn and I like to research things that interest me, and I like to  share some of this information with those around me. I think I am as close to my dream job as I ever will be, unless I win the lottery and can afford to be a full-time writer.
